Building Engineer (Granville Island)

The Building Engineer is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all Granville Islands 38 acre site and 40 buildings including ground works, utility services,  buildings, and associated equipment.  Ensuring thorough inspections, repairs and maintains the Island’s 11 million visitors each year have  a clean, comfortable, and safe, environment  to visit that maintains code compliance and reduces the risk liability to the owner.




•    Provides initial troubleshooting for complex repair requests relating to plumbing , HVAC operations, spray park and water slide and electrical. Calls in contactors as needed and oversees contractors work. Contribute to the implementation of programs, policies and/or product changes in the Canadian affordable housing sector.
•    Provides guidance, instruction, and direction, to junior team members that are carrying out repair or preventative maintenance tasks. 
•    Performs regular servicing, inspects, operates, maintains and repairs mechanical and electrical systems and equipment including boilers, chillers, HVAC , pumps, generators, life safety systems, ice machines, grease traps, toilets etc.
•    Ensuring all building equipment is in good running order and relevant certifications are up to date though regular inspections and assigned preventative maintenance tasks as per manufacturers recommendations.
•    Repairs and provides maintenance of the infrastructure on the Island such as the water lines, storm sewers, irrigation system,  electrical and water distribution systems, roadways boardwalks and sidewalks.  

Minimum Qualifications:


•    Post-secondary certification in at least one specialized area within the building trades.
•    A minimum of 5 years of equivalent work experience in building maintenance.
•    Demonstrated knowledge in the key areas of plumbing repairs, HVAC operations and controls and electrical troubleshooting.  
•    Organizational, coaching and communication skills.
•    Must have a valid drivers license.

Base Salary with experience: $68,801.43 + 2.75% shift premium = $70,693.47

Individual Incentive Award: 2.5-5% of base salary
