Manager, Business Controls (Granville Island)

Join the Granville Island team in the position of Controller/Business Controls Manager. This role is an exceptional opportunity to become a member of the Granville Island Leadership team.  You will provide strategic financial and business advice to the management team and formalize strategic partnerships that will enable continuing development of various projects on Granville Island.   


Responsibilities: 

 

  • Responsible for developing overall strategic and operating plans to ensure the financial viability of the business unit.
  • Leads four distinct teams (finance, procurement, administration and payroll) that support the overall operation and decision-making of the business unit.
  • As a key member of the management team, develops and recommends various scenarios to optimize capital building development and cash flow analyses targeted toward achieving successful implementation of development plans.
  • Provides guidance, advice and recommendations to various internal clients, ranging from middle management to Senior VP's with regards to financial impacts and plans, special initiatives and unique business cases and is accountable for guidelines, policies and risk management.
  • Ensures that the business unit is in compliance with the external audit, including the timely provision of reports, explanations, data, and related information, as required, to external auditors.
  • Leads the preparation of financial statements and related analysis, including the annual financial statement audit process. Leads the preparation and distribution of timely and accurate financial reports and other reports on business activities, including monthly and quarterly status reporting.
  • Leads the annual operating and capital budgeting processes, including preparing submissions and materials for approval by Management Committee and the Board of Directors.
  • Leads the preparation of external reporting to municipal and provincial authorities and organizations.


Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Undergraduate degree in business administration, finance or commerce.
  • Professional accounting designation, such as CPA, CA, CMA or CGA.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in a financial management/oversight position, including 2-3 years of experience with staff reports.
  • Solid understanding of Financial Statements and generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Demonstrated work experience in technical accounting as well as leading and/or participating in cross-functional project teams.
  • Ability to synthesize data and package coherent recommendations.
  • Knowledge of relevant financial, legislative and regulatory environments.
  • Strong influencing skills for making recommendations to management team and clients.
  • Excellent analytical and project management skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Familiarity with commercial property management is an asset.
