Accountant (Granville Island)

Join the Granville Island team in the role of Accountant. The primary objectives of this position are to process all financial expenditures related to Granville Island, including both operating and capital expenditures; to process all financial obligations of the tenant lease agreements, including cash receipts and the financial administration of the lease agreements; and to provide support and assistance to other members of the finance team for a range of activities related to accounting, reconciliation, financial planning, reporting and analysis
 
This position requires a self-starter who is methodical, has good planning and organizational skills, accurate, tactful, persistent, understanding, yet persuasive and must be flexible to deal with a variety of clients, vendors, and tenants on Granville Island.
 
Responsibilities:

 

  • Ensures accurate and timely processing of vendor invoices, Property Tax remittance, employee reimbursements, and internal Purchase Card transactions and reports. This involves verification of the amounts, account codes, authorizations, purchase orders, and ensuring goods are received in good condition via the approval matrix. 
  • Ensures that all responsibility centres are properly charged to facilitate the budgeting and accountability of both operating and capital budgets including the correct application of applicable taxes (PST/GST/Parking Tax, etc.).  
  • Accounts Payables are entered, verified and posted into the ERP system. Cheque/Payment disbursement reports are produced and submitted for reporting to National Office through the corporate ERP system.
  • Processing and administration of all financial requirements of the tenants lease agreements, i.e. base and percentage rents, property tax charges, advertising, common area maintenance recoveries, chargebacks, and utility charges. 
  • Processing and verification of all cash receipts and deposits for tenant revenues, day tables and parking fees, including posting to the ERP system.   
  • Processes fiscal year end transactions and posts them to both ERP systems.
  • Prepares journal vouchers and spreadsheets for reporting revenues and adjustments to National Office.
  • Responsible for reconciling accounts and items such as returned items (NSF cheques), accounts receivable, Parking Tax remittance, Day Vendor Program, Cash account and Income statement accounts within the Granville Island and National Office ERP systems and making adjustments as necessary.

 
Minimum Qualifications:
 

  • Post-secondary education with accounting concentration and substantial relevant experience or equivalent combination of education, training and at least five (5) years of relevant experience in an accounting environment.
  • Good understanding of financial statements and general accounting principles.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage several ongoing and competing projects.
  • Good working knowledge of corporate financial guidelines and procedures relating to accounting, billings, credit administration and accounts payables/receivables.  
  • Ability to function in a sophisticated technological environment using tools such as spreadsheets, databases and applications as well as consolidation and reporting tools.  

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Completion of Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or active enrollment of CPA pre-requisites (CPA Prep/PEP program) would be an asset.
