This position reports to the Finance Business Partnering team in our Office of the Chief Financial Officer sector. In this sector, we use financial foresight and legal insight to improve housing affordability.


About the role

We’re constantly evolving to build an inclusive housing system through research, design, innovation and partnerships. The incumbent will apply business analysis, quantitative financial and digital skills and knowledge of Canada’s financial /mortgage/housing sectors to financial modelling initiatives at CMHC, including model development, validation and the interpretation of results with the ultimate purposes of informing decision making, enhancing risk management and building efficient and automated systems.


What you will need

  • Bachelor’s degree in analytical quantitative field, such as finance, accounting, economics, statistics or actuarial sciences. A finance or accounting designation would be an asset (CFA, CPA).
  • Minimum of five years of experience in business modelling or quantitative analytics roles. Experience in the financial or real estate industries would be an asset. Post-graduate degree with a minimum of three years of experience would be considered.
  • Sharp analytical skills in finance, valuation, market analysis including ability on qualitative analysis.
  • Process large quantities of data in an efficient and organized manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct rigorous analysis using critical thinking, judgement and creativity to resolve complex issues.
  • Ability to rapidly understand KPIs and identify drivers of value.
  • Data and value-driven – you will be able to understand and translate data into meaningful insights. Expected to filter, analyze and validate complex and dynamic information.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with an ability to structure / synthetize key messages.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with an ability to engage with and influence internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a sophisticated technological environment utilizing various modelling and software tools.
  • Hands-on experience on data science, advanced analytics and big data   would be considered an asset.


What you will be doing

Analysis and Oversight

  • Applies modelling/validation expertise, financial and business knowledge to analyze financial and business issues.
  • Helps stakeholders use models and interpret results.
  • Monitors business and market trends, economic conditions and operating environments to ensure models and analysis properly reflect current data and market dynamics.
  • Ensures models are appropriately documented and subject to appropriate controls, including change management protocols.
  • Ensures the sustainability of automated systems and tools and their respective conformity to business specifications.

Model Development/Validation and Implementation

  • Plans and scopes the required activities needed as part of the model and business analysis development.
  • Co-develops, supports or validates models and analysis, often in multidisciplinary teams, to inform financial business decisions; models are used for purposes such as KPI tie in to strategic priorities, financial reporting,projections and planning, cost efficiency, business analytics, stress testing, capital adequacy assessment, and automated systems and tools.
  • Co-maintains models throughout their life cycle and best practices.
  • Sets up a framework to monitor model performance metrics and the operationalization of model risk.
  • Supports the migration of models from development to production.
  • Maintains and applies knowledge of best practices and recent advances in quantitative methods and analytical techniques.
  • Conducts data mining and big data analyses using state-of-the-art methods and technology. Monitors updates and integrity of data and databases.

Relationship Management

  • Ensures models and analysis respond to the needs of users and other stakeholders and that they understand  limitations.
  • Maintains relationships with partners to ensure the bidirectional knowledge transfer required to develop, validate and implement models and business analysis.
  • Understanding, influencing and/or supporting stakeholders are important considerations in achieving acceptance by others and driving expected results.
