Student intern, Modelling (Position can be located anywhere in Canada)

Join the Office of the Chief Risk Officer Team, where we enable each employee to embrace strategic risks within established limits. You will gather and interpret data, apply models, and recommend further investigation. You will help maintain and update quantitative and qualitative economic, financial, or statistical databases.  You will process, consolidate, and transform data sets within and between databases using statistical and / or advanced analytical techniques to analyze and opine on macroeconomics.

 

We are currently hiring for a full-time Student Intern for a 4-month Summer term (May - August).


Responsibilities:
• Compile, sort and organize data in preparation for subsequent analysis. Test and validate hypotheses through the application of a range of advanced mathematical, statistical, scientific and / or computational techniques.     
• Identify and resolve data quality issues by conducting both routine and ad-hoc data cleaning and testing.      
• Support the team on all matters related to modelling and analytics, risk management and model validation using mathematical, statistical, scientific and / or computational techniques. 
• Assist in the development and maintenance of models. This would include model development and model validation.      
• Contribute to model documentation, good model governance and tools for model validation.    
• Research and review internal and external best practices, regulatory requirements, market trends, economic conditions, and other factors that influence financial and mortgage sectors.     

 

Minimum Qualifications

• New Graduate or near completion of a University degree in a quantitative discipline such as Finance, mathematics, economics, statistics and actuarial sciences.
• Experience can be acquired through the studies, work experience or volunteer activities.    
• Understanding of mathematical finance/actuarial science and risk management.  
• Knowledge of advanced analytical techniques and  predictive modelling. 
• Good oral and written communication and presentation skills.   
• Ability to work in a technological environment utilizing various modelling and programming tools. 

 

Preferred Qualifications
• Enrolled and pursuing a Professional designation (Actuarial, Chartered Financial Analyst, Professional Risk Manager, Financial Risk Manager, and Certificate in Quantitative Finance) considered an asset.
• Proficient in database, IT, data science would be an asset
• Ability to program in Python or R.(ERM)
• Experience with SQL.
• Experience with financial research would be a preferred qualification.
