About the role
Join the Insurance and Securitization Team, in the Specialist, Quality Assurance position. In this role, you will play a key part in supporting both the Commercial Multi-Unit Mortgage Loan Insurance and Homeowner Mortgage Loan Insurance businesses. Your primary responsibility will be to conduct reviews that assess the quality of CMHC’s internal insurance activities. You will lead and perform analyses to monitor operational quality, ensure adherence to documented procedures, and verify compliance with financial and operational authorities, CMHC policies, and Department of Finance regulations. From planning to execution, you will manage the full life cycle of quality assurance activities. Additionally, you will apply risk and control concepts to real-world scenarios, communicate findings and potential risks to management, and ensure timely and effective resolution of any issues. Your work will help safeguard operational integrity and strengthen confidence in our processes.

 

This is a temporary position of a duration of 12 months.

 

What you’ll do:

 

  • Ensure appropriate risk awareness, execute on internal quality assurance activities and reporting, working closely with applicable commercial underwriting personnel.
  • Ensure that regulations and requirements, as recommended by the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions, are met and applied as needed within the Commercial Multi-Unit Mortgage Loan Insurance business lines, including Risk Management Operations.
  • Lead the execution of ongoing monitoring, testing, evaluating, and reporting on key Commercial Multi-Unit Mortgage Loan Insurance and Homeowner Mortgage Loan Insurance underwriting processes, controls, and policy/program requirements, framework requirements, assessing rigor and consistency in the application of policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Draft reports that outline the observations and prioritize the recommendations arising from review activities.
  • Stay informed on corporate objectives, priorities, and initiatives across CMHC to adequately identify existing and emerging risks.
  • Promote and leverage appropriate industry frameworks, standards, and practices, as applicable, in conducting work activities.

 

What you should have:

 

  • An undergraduate degree in a related field such as business, finance, or economics.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in the Commercial Multi-Unit Mortgage Loan Insurance underwriting and/or Homeowner Mortgage Loan Insurance underwriting discipline, demonstrating knowledge of mortgage loan insurance risk management, quality assurance, and oversight.
  • Sound judgment, analytical thinking, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to gather data from many sources, synthesize information, draw conclusions, and make recommendations based on solid research.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (tact, judgment, diplomacy, professionalism, and political sensitivity).

 

It would be great if you also had:

 

  • A professional designation in a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management and organizational skills.
  • Experience working with Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions regulations and knowledge of how they apply to our underwriting activities.
