This position reports to the Analytics team in our Analytics and Chief Data Office (CDO)   within the Chief Information Officer (CIO) sector. This sector leads our digital transformation to accelerate housing affordability.

We are looking for a Power BI Solutions expert with strong analytical and technical skills and big ideas to join our team to support the growth and maturity of Business Intelligence at CMHC.  The Analytics team leverages the wealth of data available to improve and provide valuable insights in support of decision-making in support of achieving our ambitious goal.

 

In this role, you will be responsible for the design and implementation of Power BI solutions from back-end components (requirements, semantic model, ETL, etc.) to front-end user interaction / experience. This includes selecting, blueprinting, gathering requirements, designing, developing, rolling out BI solutions as well as completing knowledge transfer sessions to end users.  You will be working closely with the leadership and business teams as well as other partners, turning data into insights and maturing our data-driven decision making environment while helping us make housing affordable for everyone in Canada.

What you will need
• Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, Physics or any other related quantitative field. Master degree will be preferred.
• Minimum of five years of experience developing and implementing BI solutions, data mining and modelling, management of large and complex data sets and ability to transform and prepare data to feed models.    
• Minimum two years of demonstrated hands-on work experience with Microsoft Power BI in designing, developing, implementing and optimizing dashboard and reporting solutions with a focus on usability, user experience and performance.     
• Experience with Power BI security methodologies; aligning business use cases with security solutions. 
• Advanced proficiency in Data Analysis Expression (DAX), M, ETL (Power Query), SQL (or data extraction and integration tools) and performance optimization. Knowledge of R/Python and ability to learn new tools as needed. Advanced critical thinking and problem solving skills, out of box thinking, drive for innovation and ability to execute ideas.
• Knowledge of AI, Machine Learning and Predictive / Prescriptive Analytics is a definite asset.
• Power BI certifications is a definite asset.     
• Strong ability to work on several initiatives simultaneously and work within tight deadlines.  
• Ability to communicate clearly in conversation and in presentations to both technical and non-technical staff and to provide updates to all levels of management and stakeholders.

 

What you will be doing    
• Supports and/or co-leads the scoping of Business Intelligence solution sessions with business lines to capture business objectives and prioritize opportunities.
• Translates business objectives to develop and implement Power BI Solutions that facilitates decision-making and supports the business lines in support of their self-service Power BI development.
• Develops Power BI data models that aggregate data from multiple data sources to meet requirements, configure, and setup application gateway refreshes.
• Supports the analytical cycle by working with Business SMEs to:
a. Lead the discovery process to clarify business requirements and outcomes.
b. Perform data understanding, including understanding data available, influencing the addition of additional data sources, and the selection of the most relevant sources of information.
c. Creates mock-up reports for proof of concept reviews.
d. Design and develop complex BI solutions, from back-end components and processes to front-end user interaction/experience components/requirements.
e. Write functional/non-functional and integration test cases and test scripts from Power BI business requirements and technical design documents Troubleshoots/tests the solution and ensures the solution performs / performance-tune these solutions as necessary and documenting results.
f. Document business expected outcomes, baselines and value-add framework.   

• Designs and delivers Knowledge transfer sessions including support live BI processes: a) creating/changing BI process schedules, and b) monitoring and troubleshooting BI processes, such as data loads, transformations, etc.     
• Presents and communicates the Power BI solutions in an efficient and easily understandable way to a wide variety of audiences (internal and external), including senior management.    
• Documents progress, finalizes model build books, leads knowledge transfer sessions, and applies visualization techniques that is easily comprehended and simplified for non-technical stakeholder audiences.     
• Supports the Community of Practice by a) acts as evangelist for Power BI utilization and benefits across the company, b) mentors and/or provides leadership to the Community of Practice members.
