About the role

Join the Chief Risk Office’s Business and Operational Risk team in the Specialist, Operational Risk Oversight (Securitization Operations, Lending).  In this role, you’ll leverage your expertise in risk management, governance, and internal controls to provide strategic insight and independent challenge across key operational areas. As a trusted advisor,  you'll assess operational resilience and risk maturity, delivering clear, actionable insights that support CMHC’s mission and strengthen its risk posture.

 

What you’ll do:

 

  • Provide independent oversight and challenge across key operational risk areas—particularly in enterprise-level project risks, securitization, and lending operations—ensuring effective risk management and control practices.
  • Deliver clear, risk-based insights and reporting to senior management and the Board, identifying key exposures and emerging risks.
  • Enhance operational risk governance by developing metrics, tools, and escalation processes, and by supporting the aggregation of enterprise risk data for informed decision-making.
  • Act as a strategic advisor to first-line business units, offering practical guidance on risk practices, internal controls, and resilience.
  • Promote a strong risk culture by leading training, awareness, and stakeholder engagement initiatives, while aligning risk oversight with CMHC’s mission and strategic priorities.

 

What you should have:

 

  • An Undergraduate degree in business administration, commerce, management information systems, law, economics, or related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in operational risk oversight internal audit, or a related assurance and compliance function.
  • Practical experience in risk oversight within at least two of the following areas:  enterprise-level project risk/change management oversight, securitization or capital markets operations, Multi-Unit lending.
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to deliver high-impact presentations and reports.
  • Proven ability to manage and prioritize complex projects in a cross-functional and matrixed environment.

 

It would be great if you also had:

 

  • A certification or designation in risk management a relevant field of study (i.e., governance, compliance, audit, business), such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), etc.
  • Experience using data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) to develop impactful dashboards and risk reporting.
  • Familiarity with public sector governance, including regulatory expectations for Crown Corporations and the application of federal legislation in enterprise risk contexts.
