This position reports to the Strategy, Products and Risk Management team in our Risk Mgmt, Strategy & Products – MU, Office of the SVP, Client Solutions sector. This sector is the glue that fosters collaboration between Client Solutions and Client Operations and encourages a client-centric mindset.

About the role
We’re constantly evolving to build an inclusive housing system through research, design, innovation and partnerships. You will lead the development of effective strategies and products, risk management and provide solutions through expert guidance in order to promote housing affordability and financial markets stability.  You will contribute to the development of new policies, services and systems.  You will also provide strategic input into policy direction and implements CMHC's mission, vision and goals. You will conceive and oversee effective consultation processes with internal/external stakeholders to inform the divisional and corporate strategic directions.  This will help us make housing affordable for everyone in Canada.
 

What you will need
• Undergraduate degree in a related field, such as business, economics or finance.
• Minimum seven years of experience in a related field.
• Proven knowledge as a Subject Matter Expert in multi-unit products and product development.  
• Strong knowledge of housing market practices and structures.     
• Ability to identify and define the scope and objectives of a project, anticipate resource needs, and arrange, prioritize and schedule activities to meet project objectives.     
• Ability to write and edit clear and compressive formal technical reports on products, feasibility studies, specifications and systems.  Effective in translating detailed and complicated technical ideas to easily understood documents.  Works closely with project teams to develop strategy documents.
• Understanding of Canada’s housing finance system, markets, appropriations, mortgage insurance and funding, the secondary mortgage market, lending/underwriting practices and default management. 
• Ability to successfully prepare long-range plans for a major functional area.  Demonstrates ability to forecast complex resource needs, recognize risks and develop strategy.       
• Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and presentation skills to be able to present at committees.       
• Ability to gauge the technical knowledge of the audience and translate the information to fit the audience.
• Ability to think forward, to estimate and assess the changing dynamics of the housing market. Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of performance or operational measurements to successfully meet broad work objectives.
• Ability to interpret information from various sources in order to provide recommendations concerning the continuous development of organizational programs

Additional Assets
• "MBA, CFA and/or risk management certification is an asset."     

 

What you will be doing

Advice and Guidance
• Acts as the subject matter expert concerning strategy and multi-unit products development. Provides guidance, advice and recommendations to senior management on strategy and multi-unit products, policies and procedures.  
• Lead the development of strategies and products that promote housing affordability and financial markets stability.     
• Identifies opportunities through the market knowledge to strengthen and change the strategies and multi-unit products, frameworks and structures to achieve the set objectives.     
• In co-operation with multiple internal partners, participates in the development of a long-term strategic vision for products and tools.  

 

Business Analysis
• Identifies opportunities to advance the organizational and government's objectives through the strategies and multi-unit products. Supports the development of policies and processes for these products.
• Follows and understands the changing market dynamics and the governmental policy objectives in respect to the multi-unit products and develops and implements solutions relative to the design of new multi-unit products that respond to those policy objectives.  
• Performs high-level/broad analysis and leverages colleagues within the team for more detailed analytical results, as well as the data from the operations group and external data providers to develop the advice and recommendations on a change in approach, strategy or risk assessment. 

 

Client Relationship Management
• Develops and maintains strong internal and external relationships. Acts as a point person when concerning the strategy aspect of multi-unit products. Consults with external clients, product participants, service providers, industry stakeholder and associations.  
• Identify and implement opportunities to collaborate and share intelligence both internally and externally to support strategic direction.       
• Create strong lines of communication throughout CMHC to ensure that work within the division aligns with and supports the activities of other sectors.     
         

Risk Management
• Identifies opportunities for more rigour to the risk management of multi-unit products.   
• Contributes to the corporate strategy setting and the determination of appropriate levels of risk in the multi-unit domain. 
• Provides recommendations/input on the management of new program policies related to new multi-unit products, services and systems or to better manage risk exposures.
