About the role

Join the Analytics team, in the Senior Specialist, Modelling position. In this role, you will be responsible for introducing advanced, innovative analytics techniques and modeling complex problems to inform decision making, enhance risk management and build automated systems. This role is proficient at integrating and preparing large, varied datasets and communicating these results to various audiences, including senior management.

 

What you’ll do:

 

  • Responsible for modeling complex analytics problems, discovering insights and identifying opportunities with advanced statistical and predictive modeling techniques. Explores and implements complex techniques such as natural language processing, text mining, multivariate testing, machine learning and deep learning techniques.
  • Works with the Analytics team to support the maturity of the Analytics capability by introducing analytic approaches.
  • Leads knowledge transfer activities and develops and introduces best practices.
  • Applies advanced statistical and predictive modeling techniques to build, maintain, or enhance analytical solutions.
  • Presents, recommends and communicates analytics solutions in an efficient and easily understandable way to a wide variety of audiences, including senior management.
  • Documents progress, finalizes model build books, shares findings through presentations and reports, and applies visualization techniques that can easily be comprehended and simplified for non-technical stakeholder audiences.

 

What you should have:

 

  • A postgraduate degree (Master’s or PhD) in Quantitative Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Actuarial Science, Finance, Economics or other quantitative field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in data science, modelling or quantitative analytics at a bank, insurance company, asset management or other types of financial institution.
  • Demonstrated proficiency skills in Python/R, SQL, and experience using a wide range of analytical techniques (e.g. supervised learning, clustering, natural language processing (NLP), time series analysis, A/B testing, regressions, correlations, statistical significance, network/link analysis, sentiment analysis, large language models).
  • Advanced knowledge of industry modelling techniques and best practices for risk analysis, analytics and management.
  • Solid experience manipulating large datasets and using databases. Proficiency in using query languages such as SQL and Hive.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Big Data technologies such as Spark, Cassandra, and/or Hadoop.
  • Demonstrated ability to persuade, influence, and negotiate effectively with colleagues, clients, and senior management, while also possessing strong analytical skills to research issues, analyze problems, synthesize information, and provide sound recommendations.

 

It would be great if you also had:

 

  • A broad understanding of the Canadian housing market including mortgage loan insurance, affordable/social programs, housing finance and socio-economic indicators.
  • Experience in using AI (e.g. generative AI, large language models) for solving problems.
  • Data science certifications (e.g. Applied Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Deep Learning, Microsoft Azure Data Scientist, etc.).
  • Bilingual (English & French).
