This position reports to the Financial Reporting team in our Office of the Deputy Chief Financial Officer sector. This sector uses financial foresight and legal insight to improve housing affordability.


This is a 6-month temporary position.

Your expertise in financial reporting and in providing strategic financial advice to management to support complex accounting matters will make you the best candidate for this opportunity. Your experience with implementing new requirements related to accounting standards under International Financial Report Standards (IFRS) will help us make housing affordable for everyone in Canada.



What you will need
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is preferred. University degree in Finance and Business Administration may be considered.
• Completion of a Professional Accounting Designation (CPA).
• Master of Business Administration degree or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), asset.
• Minimum of seven (7) years of relevant work experience and increasing responsibilities working with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).  An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS 9 – Financial Instruments and other related standards, asset.
• Demonstrated work experience in designing and implementing new accounting policies, and procedures.
• Demonstrated work experience in technical accounting well as leading and/or participating in cross functional project teams.
• Demonstrated work experience and skills in providing strategic financial advice and decision support on highly complex accounting matters.
• Demonstrated project management and team leadership skills to manage several ongoing and competing projects.
• Knowledge of relevant financial, legislative, and regulatory environments.
• Understanding of financial statements and general accounting principles for all aspects of the business.
• Excellent ability to gather and analyze information, to synthesize key elements and summarize with recommendations.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.

What you will be doing
• Provides strategic advice to management on financial results, accounting policies, complex accounting matters, and external audit issues related to CMHC
• Assisting in the preparation and review of the annual and quarterly reports and financial statements for CMHC
• Provide technical accounting expertise related to annual and quarterly reporting as well as adhoc projects
• Responsible for managing the development and administration of accurate and complete treasury accounting records and financial reports
• Analyze proper presentation and disclosure relative to best practices.
• Identifies, obtains, interprets and analyses the financial information required to support CMHC’s financial decision-making. Providing mentorship and guidance on the work of Analysts and Specialists.
• Coordinate and support with both financial and operational team in order to meet CMHC’s reporting requirements.
• Prepares explanations, submissions, briefing materials and presentations for delivery to Senior Management, the Audit Committee and Board of Directors.
• Conducting in-depth analyses, identifying developing trends, issues and changes in legislation and assessing their impact on our financial reporting requirements and financial policy framework.
