This position reports to the Finance Business Partnering team in our Office of the Chief Financial Officer sector. This sector uses financial foresight and legal insight to improve housing affordability.

 

About the role

We’re constantly evolving to build an inclusive housing system through research, design, innovation and partnerships. You will lead the synthesis and delivery of strategic and operational financial advisory services. You will act as a business partner, establish robust financial processes and provide business insights on which financial decisions can be made. You will also proactively develop an in-depth understanding of the business operations through discussion and analysis, distilling financial needs end-to-end for the finance function and gaining trust as a business partner. You will be heavily involved in the business improvement drive to manage a portfolio of process, system and reporting improvements. You will conduct financial modelling activities, develop, implement, interpret and report on performance measures. These activities will contribute to CMHC’s strategic objective to make housing affordable for everyone in Canada.

What you will need

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field such as accounting, finance, business administration, economics or commerce.
  • Master of Business Administration, a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of seven years experience in finance-related roles such as FP&A, Finance Business Partnering, Business Analysis, Business Improvement, Commercial Finance.
  • Green Belt or PMP considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of financial, legislative and regulatory performance measurement environment.
  • Business and commercial acumen.
  • Results oriented, team player, strong analytical skills, critical thinking and storytelling.
  • Excellent ability to gather and analyze information, synthesize key elements and summarize with recommendations.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize and work in a multi-demand environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including presentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, project management and team leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence multiple levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated work experience overseeing the work of other financial professionals.

 

What you will be doing

  • Fosters a business-partnering dynamic, understands both finance and business dimensions and focuses on providing proactive analysis and guidance to clients, leveraging available systems and tools.
  • Acts as the "single window to Finance," helping clients navigate end-to-end financial requirements, establish robust financial processes that provide business insights on decision-making needs.
  • Supports internal client groups, ranging from middle management to senior vice-presidents, providing guidance, advice and recommendations with regards to business initiatives, business cases, guidelines, policies and risk management in line with CMHC’s strategy.
  • Establishes and maintains meaningful relationships with clients and relevant stakeholders to gain a thorough understanding of the business and environment in order to facilitate collaboration in accomplishing improvement initiatives, distilling financial needs, influencing business decisions and gaining trust as a business partner.
  • Leads finance business improvement activities for the business partnering team covering processes, system and reporting enhancements focused on transformation, productivity and value creation.
  • Ability to develop, manage and lead the delivery of improvement initiates through the use of Business Improvement tools and methodologies. Includes the evaluation of current financial processes related to financial infrastructure, models, reporting, controls, financial model and procedures to recommend specific and meaningful improvements in efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Collaborates on the development, implementation, standardization and monitoring of meaningful and appropriate performance indicators, measures and targets to ensure clients/functions are meeting stakeholder expectations and achieving strategic objectives.
  • Applies an understanding of business performance measures and delivers analysis and advice which provides meaningful insights into the underlying drivers of performance for operational and strategic metrics, key expense performance indicators, benchmark comparisons and other variables, and provides recommendations to senior management to optimize client performance.
  • Provides advice, challenge and coaching to clients in the development of business plans, financial forecasts, cost estimates, business cases and assumptions used in financial models.
  • Conducts analyses to cost, evaluate, challenge and support business cases including narratives and ensure well linked to strategy.
  • Applies knowledge of financial accounting standards and financial management policies, principles, processes and internal controls to drive accuracy, efficiency and optimization of financial activities.
