About the role

We’re constantly evolving to build an inclusive housing system through research, design, innovation and partnerships. The incumbent provides analytical, functional and technical leadership across the division by expanding and deepening analyses and insights into economics, demographics, housing and mortgage markets contributing to client and stakeholder needs. He contributes to the identification, planning and prioritization of analysis requirements across the division. As an intellectual leader, acts as a quality assurance function on analytical approaches and output. Assists the divisional management team with work planning, prioritizing and contributing to setting the agenda. Acts as a key liaison between the expertise within Market Insights for internal stakeholders to advance corporate initiatives and deliverables. He will help us make housing affordable for everyone in Canada.



What you will need

  • Postgraduate degree in economics.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience in an economics analysis role at senior analyst level.
  • Thorough understanding of and experience in analysis and forecasting of the general economy, housing and mortgage markets.
  • Expert knowledge and demonstrated experience in the application of statistics, econometric.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate economic and housing market information both orally and in writing to senior level audiences both internally and externally.
  • Thorough understanding of and experience in analysis and forecasting of the general economy, housing and mortgage markets.
  • Expert knowledge and demonstrated experience in the application of statistics, regression analysis, seasonal adjustment, simulation and forecasting techniques.
  • Demonstrated expertise in project management.
  • Influencing skills and ability to obtain relevant information and provide clear and politically appropriate messaging.


What you will be doing


Analysis / Forecasting

  • Identifies and produces economic and housing market analyses using sound econometric modelling and analytical techniques to support informed decision making with internal and external clients.
  • Leads and produces CMHC analyses and publications designed for internal and/or external use, including briefing materials for senior management and analytical content for corporate reporting.
  • Works with analysts and economists to identify and assess market vulnerabilities, financial system risk and affordability challenges.
  • Works with the Deputy Chief Economists to contribute to ongoing corporate analytical and research plans and recommends implementation plans.
  • Plays a key role in bridging local and broader stakeholder insight needs in forming corporate and specific analysis and research plans.


Monitoring and Application

  • Uses analytical tools and methodologies to monitor progress, identify trends, recognize risks in housing markets and the overall economy, and communicate results.
  • Coordinates and delivers information, analysis and research findings to various stakeholders through mediums including corporate reporting, workshops, meetings and conferences.
  • Mentors divisional staff in identifying analysis needs, developing plans and conducting the analysis.
  • Incorporates industry research and intelligence-gathering activities into housing analysis plans that enables timely, relevant and meaningful insights.
  • Conducts or works with housing industry professionals to provide advanced, technical and innovative research and analysis that contributes to the function’s body of expert knowledge on economic, housing and mortgage market analysis.


Planning and Monitoring

  • Serves as key liaison between Market Insights and internal stakeholders with respect to providing economic environment input into write-ups for the Corporate Plan, Quarterly Performance Report, etc.
  • Conducts primary research or works with external consultants in the provision of specialized technical research on factors, which influence housing and mortgage markets.
  • Serves as the 1B role for the Market Analysis function with respect to the three lines of defence in terms of risk management.
  • Provides guidance to senior analysts conducting research and projects that contribute to the function's body of expert knowledge in areas of economic and housing analysis.
