About the role
We’re constantly evolving to build an inclusive housing system through research, design, innovation and partnerships. The incumbent of this position plans, develops and assists in the development of new models pertaining to the Canadian housing market. Produces analyses and reports that allow CMHC to understand market-based trends and opportunities and to make informed decisions that directly impact strategic planning and the continued development of products, programs and policies to help us make housing affordable for everyone in Canada.

What you will need
• Specialized degree or concentration in econometrics.
• Postgraduate degree in economics.
• Minimum of five years of relevant work experience.
• Demonstrated expert knowledge of economics and economic modelling.
• Demonstrated expert knowledge of statistics and statistical methodologies.
• Expert knowledge and seasoned experience in implementing and operationalizing quantitative models and forecasting tools for business decisions and analysis.
• Excellent oral and written communications skills.
• Proficiency and experience in project management.


What you will be doing

Communications and Reporting

  •  Produce corporate briefing material related to model outcomes and research results and ensure that the analysis and results are actionable by the client groups.
  •  Provide advice, guidance and exchange information and knowledge with regional and/or National Office economists in economic modelling techniques and act as a challenge function when necessary.
  •  Foster knowledge sharing with client groups and encourage engagement and collaboration.
  •  Demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, innovation, negotiation and diplomacy in interactions with colleagues, external clients and stakeholders.
  •  Communicate methodologies, results and implications of quantitative models and forecasting tools to the National Office and regions.


Model Development

  •  Identify modelling and data needs to help improve the Market Analysis Centre's ability to assess and forecast the state of the Canadian housing market.
  •  Use advanced statistical and econometric modelling techniques to lead the production and development of new models pertaining to the Canadian housing market.
  •  Use technical expertise, economic analytical skills and experience to find solutions to improve predictiveness, accuracy and other performance results of existing or new models.
  •  Provide analytical tools for decision making in business for use by other divisions. Support, train and guide usage of tools used in development of products and programs.
  •  Oversee project management, meeting timelines and delivery goals for the development of analyses and models.
  •  Manage junior resources and aid development of their technical expertise and analytical skills.


People Leadership

  •  Skills in motivating, understanding and/or developing people are critical to the achievement of results through others.


Planning and Priority Setting

  •  Contribute to the development of the division's work plan regarding model development.
  •  Contribute to the development of sector-level business planning, priority setting and risk management with regards to modelling and data needs.


Relationship Management

  •  Work with other divisions and sectors informally and formally on a daily basis, and educate others on building risk management culture at CMHC.
  •  Contribute to the Corporate Plan and corporate-wide stress-testing program.
  •  Provide formal coaching and training to more junior team members and other internal stakeholders.
