About the role
Join the Multi-Unit Borrower Financial Analysis (MUBFA) team within the Business and Portfolio Operations Division where we provide credit opinions on large borrowers in support of Underwriting Operations. In this role, you will identify, analyze and assess the risks on large borrowers and provide a recommendation on CMHC’s continued insurance business. You will mentor and coach junior members of the team by providing guidance on large borrowers with complex organizational structures and elevated risks. You will also advise the senior management on key risk indicators at the portfolio level and recommend active mitigation strategies accordingly considering all relevant business and risk factors.
This is a temporary position of a duration of 24 months.
What you’ll do:
- Act as the subject matter expert and coach and mentor junior members of the team.
- Establish financial review and monitor framework on large borrowers and provide subject matter expertise to internal & external clients.
- Perform complex financial analyses and manage the end-to-end credit review process, while providing guidance to internal clients on financial aspects, such as financial reviews, credit analysis, risk management policies and procedures.
- Work closely with external clients and counterparties, reviewing borrower financials submitted by lenders and preparing recommendations for credit committee approval.
- Ensure that the functional business unit is compliant with corporate policies and follows industry best practices.
- Ensure that appropriate systems are in place for effective and efficient credit risk analysis, monitoring and reporting.
- Develop and support the development of policies, methodologies, procedures, analytical modelling and risk management information systems.
- Develop and deliver seminars for various internal/external stakeholders.
What you should have:
- An undergraduate degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or Accounting.
- A minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in financial risk management, with strong knowledge of mortgage lending, real estate markets, and credit risk principles and solid understanding of underwriting standards, loan structuring, and collateral analysis.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think quickly, and apply deep industry knowledge to assess complex credit scenarios independently.
- A proven ability to work independently as a self-starter, with a proactive mindset and strong motivation to identify and implement effective solutions.
- A solid knowledge of accounting standards and principles.
- An understanding of credit risk management policies and methodologies.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex financial concepts clearly and effectively to various audiences.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, business acumen and professionalism.
It would be great if you also had:
- A CPA, CFA or CIA professional designation.
- Demonstrated Audit experience.
