About the role

We’re constantly evolving to build an inclusive housing system through research, design, innovation and partnerships. As a member of the Legal Services team, you will provide legal services and advice to clients on the assigned client area relating to all matters of a legal nature relating to the conduct of their business in order to contribute to the overall effectiveness of the Corporation.  You will establish and maintain positive on-going relationships with clients in the provision of legal services under tight deadlines and turnaround times to help us make housing affordable for everyone in Canada.

 

 

 This job competition will be used to staff positions with different salary ranges.  A Counsel II position has a salary range of $88,496 - $110,620 and a Senior Counsel position has a salary range of $109,728 - $137,160.  Your years of experience will determine which position you will be considered for.

 

What you will need

  • A commitment to demonstrating CMHC values.
  • Member of the Bar in good standing in a common law and/or civil law province, with working as a Lawyer in private or public sector organizations or law firm.
  • A minimum of 4 years’ experience for the Counsel II position and a minimum of 10 years’ experience for the Senior Counsel position.
  • Demonstrated experience in the areas referenced above based on the position for which you are applying (.i.e. real estate financing or project finance).
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple files.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting research and analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining a professional relationship with business partners (external and internal).
  • Strong interpersonal skills including tact and judgement in order to liaise with clients.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent analytical and conceptual skills and the ability to interpret and analyze varied complex matters and to explain them to clients in a clear and concise manner.
  • Strong problem solving and decision making skills including the ability to be flexible, creative and innovative to ensure responsiveness to client's needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research in both the Identifying legal issues, requirements and risks as well as working with clients to develop strategies or approaches for managing these risks and achieving business objectives taking into account legal and business implications.
  • Provide advice on legal implications as well as the legal risks related to a range of policy, program and operational matters.
  • Provide transactional support for direct loans and contributions to projects.
  • Support the legislative monitoring framework by assisting with interpreting changes to provincial and federal legislation.
  • Analyse and interpreting various broad legal issues and jurisprudential developments across many jurisdictions (i.e. Common law, Civil law, provincial, federal and in certain cases international contexts).
  • Develop briefings and correspondence in support of CMHC’s mandate.
  • Traditional and technological environments.
  • Ability to balance the big picture with meeting the day-to-day needs of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
