About the role
Join our Data team, in the Senior Analyst, Geographic Information Systems position. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting Geographic Information Systems (GIS) within CMHC’s Survey and Data Group. The work involved a broad range of data management and processing activities, including database design, analysis, and programming, as well as data manipulation and GIS mapping. Additionally, you will contribute to application design, development, and maintenance tasks for GIS products.
This is a temporary position with a duration of 15 months.
What you’ll do:
- Maintain comprehensive geographic reference files for all surveys to ensure a complete geographic framework and uphold the highest standards of geographic data quality.
- Perform GIS programming, quantitative and spatial analysis, and provide expert advice within the GIS domain to support the success of research initiatives.
- Lead research and special projects utilizing GIS concepts and technology, synthesize and communicate findings to management and stakeholders.
- Develop scripts in languages such as Python and R to automate processes, perform record linkage, eliminate duplicates, and implement robust data quality routines across all workflows.
- Consult with clients to assess GIS requirements, draft business specifications, and either design or re-engineer databases or develop GIS applications to meet their needs.
- Integrate, reconcile, and standardize data from diverse sources and formats, conduct analysis, and disseminate results to address client requests.
- Manage and deliver multiple concurrent projects for various clients using strong project management skills, while collaborating effectively in team environments on shared initiatives.
What you should have:
- An undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, complemented by a GIS certification. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
- Comprehensive knowledge of GIS programming techniques, methodologies, and software applications.
- Advanced proficiency in Python or R, including experience with Jupyter Notebooks and PySpark.
- Strong understanding of geocoding principles and data projection methods.
- Proven ability to apply analytical and problem-solving techniques to complex challenges.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, actionable advice and guidance to clients both verbally and in writing.
It would be great if you also had:
- Basic knowledge of ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Portal, and ArcGIS Enterprise, along with intermediate proficiency in ArcGIS Pro.
- Experience in creating geocoders.
