Our Analytics team reports to the Office of the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and the pool reports to the Director of Analytics. The CIO is leading the digital transformation and maturity of our data and analytics capabilities to accelerate housing affordability.

We are building a pool of Data Scientists with different levels of expertise, skills to bring their analytical skills and big ideas to join your team to support the growth and maturity of data science at CMHC.  This team will leverage the wealth of data available to improve and provide valuable insights in support of decision making in support of achieving our ambitious goal.


We are currently seeking to fill two  Data Scientist II (senior) positions. In this role, you will be responsible for introducing new and innovative analytics techniques, modeling complex problems, discovering insights and identifying opportunities using statistical analysis, predictive analytics, data mining and visualization techniques.  You will be working closely with the leadership and business teams as well as other partners, turning data into insights and maturing our data-driven decision making environment while helping us make housing affordable for everyone in Canada.

What you will need
• Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, Physics or other related quantitative field.  Master degree will be preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of work experience as a Data Scientist including a demonstrated proficiency integrating and preparing large, varied datasets and communicating results to various audiences, including senior management.     
• Demonstrated proficiency skills in Python/R, SQL, Alteryx and experience using a wide range of analytical techniques (e.g. supervised learning, clustering, natural language processing (NLP), time series analysis, A/B testing, regressions, correlations, statistical significance, network/link analysis, sentiment analysis).
• Advanced knowledge of industry modelling techniques and best practices for risk analysis, analytics and management.    
• Solid experience manipulating large datasets and using databases. Proficiency in using query languages such as SQL and Hive.    
• Experience working with Big Data technologies such as Spark, Cassandra, and/or Hadoop. 
• Experience in data visualization, in particular using Power Bi.     
• Advanced critical thinking and problem solving skills driving creativity and innovation.   
• Strong ability to work on several initiatives simultaneously and work within tight deadlines. 
• Experience in implementation of data and analytics-based strategies.     
• Advanced ability to communicate abstract analytics findings to business teams and senior management.
• Ability to identify, assess and manage risk to ensure desired outcomes.     
• Broad understanding of mortgage loan insurance, affordable/social programs, real estate and finance.
• Experience with cloud services (AWS, GCP, Azure).     
• Data science certifications (e.g. Applied Artificial Intelligence (AI) and deep learning, Microsoft Azure data scientist, etc.).     

 

What you will be doing
• Support and/or co-lead the scoping and brainstorming sessions with business lines to capture business objectives and prioritizing opportunities. 
• Design experiments, test hypotheses, and builds complex models.     
• Develop and introduce innovative approaches to solve analytics problems while taking initiative to experiment with various technologies and tools resulting in the creation of data driven insights for the business within tight timelines.     
• Work with the Advisor, Data Scientists, Business Leadership and the Community of Practice Lead to support the maturity of the analytics capability by introducing analytics approaches (e.g. Machine learning, deep learning, multivariate testing, optimization of algorithms, etc.).
• Lead the knowledge transfer activities with the business lines and develops/introduces best practices with the Community of Practice Lead.     
• Support the acquisition and ingestion of data from structured and unstructured sources, while ensuring quality and comprehensiveness of data in order to generate actionable business insights.  
• Assess large volumes of data and work towards integrating and preparing large, varied and complex datasets for architecting the data.      
• Responsible for modeling complex analytics problems, discovering insights and identifying opportunities using advanced statistical and predictive modeling techniques. 
• Explore and implement complex techniques such as natural language processing, text mining and machine learning/deep learning techniques.     
• Identify and develop appropriate algorithms to discover patterns, utilizes scenario modelling while working on interactive processes with the business SMEs to validate findings and adjusting models as appropriate.
• Recommend ongoing enhancements to methods and models leading to insights.  
• Present, recommend and communicate analytics solutions in an efficient and easily understandable way to a wide variety of audiences, including senior management.     
• Escalate complex issues/barriers and findings to relevant stakeholders in an effort to improve decision-making and drive business performance.
