About the role
Join the Insurance and Securitization Team in the role of Specialist, Quality Assurance. In this role, you will support the Commercial MU MLI businesses by participating in reviews to assess the quality of CMHC’s Internal Insurance activities. You will undertake and direct analysis related to monitoring operational quality, adherence to documented procedures and degree of compliance with financial authorities, operational authorities, CMHC policy and Department of Finance regulations. You will support and execute on the full life cycle of quality assurance. Moreover, you will apply risk and control concepts to scenarios encountered, communicate identified issues or risks to management and ensure any potential concerns are addressed in a timely and effective manner.
This is a temporary position of a duration of 24 months.
What you’ll do:
- Ensure appropriate risk awareness, execute on internal quality assurance (IQA) activities and reporting, working closely with applicable commercial underwriting personnel.
- Ensure that regulations and requirements, as recommended by the Office of the Superintendent for Financial Institutions (OSFI) are met and applied as needed within the Commercial MLI business lines including Risk Management Operations (RMO).
- Lead the execution of ongoing monitoring, testing, evaluating, and reporting on key MU MLI underwriting processes, controls and policy/program requirements, framework requirements, assessing rigor and consistency in the application of policies, procedures and controls.
- Draft reports that outline the observations and prioritize the recommendations arising from review activities.
- Stay informed on corporate objectives, priorities and initiatives across CMHC to adequately identify existing and emerging risks.
- Promote and leverage appropriate industry frameworks, standards and practices, as applicable, in conducting work activities.
What you should have:
- An undergraduate degree in a related field such as business, finance or economics.
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience in the MU MLI underwriting discipline, demonstrating knowledge of mortgage loan insurance risk management, quality assurance and oversight.
- Sound judgment, analytical thinking, attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to gather data from many sources, synthesize information, draw conclusions and make recommendations based on solid research.
- Excellent interpersonal skills (tact, judgment, diplomacy, professionalism, and political sensitivity).
- Bilingualism (English and French).
It would be great if you also had:
- A professional designation in a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in project management and organizational skills.
- Experience working with OSFI regulations and knowledge of how they apply to our underwriting activities.
