About the role

Join the Insurance and Securitization team within the Prevention, Default Management and Claims operations Team, where we provide expert support to help lenders manage multi-unit housing projects facing financial difficulties, with a strong focus on minimizing financial losses. In the role of Bilingual Senior Specialist, Multi-Unit Claims, you will contribute to and support the management of the activities of the Claims and Default Management operations to provide high quality customer service and protect the interests of CMHC.

 

What you’ll do:

 

  • Act as a subject matter expert in claims by managing complex files and determining appropriate payouts and lender responsibilities.
  • Conduct in-depth reviews of expert analyses for the purposes of assessment, recommendation or approval, calling on your knowledge of loan recovery, underwriting and loan servicing, and of financial, legal and real-estate management of multi-unit buildings.
  • Provide leadership by managing workflow, improving operational processes and implementing initiatives to address a wide range of operational needs.
  • Establish and maintain strong collaboration with external lenders and key internal stakeholders, including Legal Services, Monitoring, Reporting, and Risk Management, to ensure strategic alignment and support sound critical judgment and decision-making.
  • Proactively engage with stakeholders to share subject matter expertise, communicate key insights, and contribute to the development and refinement of business strategies, and operational practices.

 

What you should have:

 

  • An undergraduate degree in commerce, business administration, law, real estate and/or finance, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • A minimum of seven years experience working in multi-unit mortgage recovery, default management, underwriting or loan administration. 
  • In-depth knowledge of risk drivers related to mortgages for multi-unit projects of five or more units.
  • Working knowledge of CMHC mortgage insurance products.
  • Solid oral and written communication skills in both official languages (French and English) with the ability to clearly communicate decisions and challenge objections when required.
  • Strong ability to lead project teams, coordinate tasks, and drive results across functions.


 
It would be great if you also had:

 

  • A legal or accounting (CPA) professional designation.
  • Claims Management training or certification.
