About the role


Join the Physical Security team under the direction of Herick Olsen, in the Bilingual Principal, Site Security position. Where your skills and passion in security and risk management, health and safety will support the development, implementation and administration of CMHC’s physical security program.This full-time permanent role ensures that all CMHC facilities, offices, assets, information, and personnel are effectively safeguarded in accordance with federal government policies, standards, and codes. The position carries a regional mandate, supervising, directing, and guiding security guards from an external service provider, and overseeing operations in Ottawa and all regional locations. The incumbent is also expected to be on call 24/7.


What you’ll do:

  • Determine all CMHC’s security requirements, physical security measures, security designs, hardware, and procedures during the planning and negotiation of contracts, capital projects, relocations, lease agreements, construction, and renovation projects.
  • Supervise, train, and manage the day-to-day operations and emergency responses of the security service provider at all CMHC sites, including addressing disciplinary and administrative issues, and reviewing weekly schedules.
  • Ensure all terms and conditions of the security contract are met, including staffing levels, proper training, review of daily logs, incident reports involving guards, and reconciliation of timesheets with invoices for payment.
  • Conduct Threat and Risk Assessments (TRA) for all CMHC work locations.
  • Manage all security programming access points and perimeter doors, and troubleshoot security system failures on a 24/7 basis.
  • Ensure CMHC employees, contractors, sub-contractors, and consultants receive appropriate access rights to fulfill their responsibilities.
  • Maintain a network of contacts with other government departments, industry partners, public sector organizations, and security establishments.
  • Develop and deliver a physical security awareness program, and advise the Senior Manager on the development and implementation of physical security directives and procedures.


What you should have:

  • Post-Secondary education in Law, Justice, Corporate Security, IT Security, or in a related field with a minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience in corporate physical security, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing and administrating a corporate physical security program. 
  • Demonstrated experience in handling complex and sensitive security requests and applications, such as video management and security systems. 
  • Thorough knowledge of government legislation, regulations, policies, procedures, standards and precedents relating to access to information and privacy considerations as it relates to physical security, biometrics and security system recordings. 
  • Well-developed interpersonal and interviewing skills to elicit information of a personal or sensitive nature from individuals and ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and discretion at all times. 
  • Strong analytical skills to assess the risks associated with complex physical security issues and to draw conclusions on which security measures are adequate under the circumstances. 
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, in both official languages including the ability to prepare and deliver presentations, and to exchange information of a sensitive nature to a variety of audiences, including senior management. 
  • Demonstrated experience in working and or collaborating with an IT cybersecurity team.
