About the role

We’re constantly evolving to build an inclusive housing system through research, design, innovation and partnerships. The Analytics Architect role is central to the optimal analytics lifecycle in support of the optimization of CMHC's analytics ecosystem and maturity of the analytics capability.  Leveraging a state of the art platform (Cloudera, R, Python, Spark, Alteryx, PowerBI and many others) this role will help CMHC across multiple lines of business derive solutions that will leverage emerging technology in new ways to change the way the organization works and thinks about solving problems at enterprise level. The incumbent is responsible for the translation of the client's business and analytic requirements into future state architectures and solutions, including the business and technical roadmaps required to achieve the target state. The role leverages / challenges the established architecture discipline to ensure that business strategies align with the powerful capabilities of analytics to achieve business objectives consistently and cost-effectively to achieve our aspiration which is to make housing affordable for everyone in Canada.

 

 

What you will need

  • Undergraduate degree in a quantitative field, such as Statistics, Economics, Commerce, Computer Science, Engineering. Masters degree considered an asset.
  • Requires minimum of 7 years of advanced experience in analytics, analysis, data management, data architecture, integrated database design, data security, performance tuning, optimization methods, and industrialization of initiatives including functional leadership experience in a complex data-driven organization.
  • Knowledge of best practices and expertise in design patterns for data, model and platform / data Lake Optimization methods.
  • Expert knowledge of Big Data technologies (e.g. Hadoop, Spark), relational databases, open source tools (e.g. R, python), data preparation tools and techniques (e.g. Alteryx, PowerBI) and use of discovery zones or sandboxes.
  • Expertise in using a variety of technologies to deliver end-to-end solutions, and experience in analytic data models, data science / machine learning techniques, statistical analysis including regressions and clustering.
  • Ability to drive next generation technologies (e.g. Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning including Robotics, Chatbots, etc.).
  • Experience in defining Data standards, Data governance and Data lineage, and Data Migration between database technologies.
  • Experience in handling large data volumes, deep understanding of the data marts, data warehouse architecture, multidimensional databases, data lakes, and data / model migration and program optimization and application scalability solutions.
  • Strong communication, presentation and influencing skills (written, verbal and cross-cultural communication skills), including the ability to speak and write clearly and succinctly in a variety of settings and styles as well as communicating messages at multiple levels in the organization.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Expert skill in identifying and analyzing trends, patterns or connections between issues, forecast impacts of change and recommend solutions.
  • Advanced demonstration of identifying, assessing and managing risk to ensure excellent outcomes are achieved for CMHC and stakeholders.
  • Ability to cope with change and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Results oriented with demonstrated perseverance.
  • Financial services industry experience an asset.

 

 

What you will be doing

  • Ensures all aspects of the ecosystem’s solution architecture are optimized by working with SMEs in the areas of analytics, IT enterprise architecture, business lines and external partnerships to understand needs and recommends solutions to project leads and senior leadership.
  • Responsible for selecting appropriate technologies from available offerings or proposing new technologies to be brought to the ecosystem.  This responsibility ensures optimization of solutions as well as reliable and scalable environments.  Leverages knowledge of the organization’s information, application, and infrastructure environment as well as the current technology landscape to design a holistic and optimized analytics platform.
  • Optimizes solution environments that considers functional requirements (e.g. benchmarking systems, analyzing system bottlenecks, developing verification criteria and statistical analysis) as well as non-functional attributes (e.g. security, usability and stability). The incumbent is responsible for planning, designing, and monitoring these key characteristics of the analytics platform to help ensure that it complies with enterprise standards and that it performs adequately as additional analytics solutions are implemented.
  • Influences and oversees the industrialization of analytics ensuring high performance of solutions in the platform as well as moving the needle in maturing the analytics capability.
  • Analyzes shapes and prioritizes requirements as well as ensuring the best solution is put in place for optimizing solutions at the analytics, business, and enterprise level.
  • Responsible for resolving issues and conflicting analytics architectural objectives and goals of a specific solution and with a view of the entire ecosystem.
  • Responsible for collaborating with emerging technology to review evolving technology that support the maturity of the analytics capability companywide.
  • Creates and implements new business value for stakeholders through diverse data and analytics capabilities, such as data engineering, data modeling, and data interaction and visualization.
  • Provides guidance and advice to Business Lines, Partnerships and Enterprise Architects to effectively blend data and analytics into business processes.
  • Responsible for influencing and overseeing the maturity of the analytics strategy by embedding insights to drive business decisions and actions.
  • Contributes to the identification and management of analytics requests. Works with key business lines stakeholders and the Centre of Excellence to understand business requirements / needs and translates them into solutions and services by identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Influences external and internal stakeholders to understand business requirements so that optimal solutions can be developed, industrialized and adopted maximizing value and resources.
  • Works with program and project managers in the design, planning and governance of implementing projects.
  • Builds relationships with broader analytics community and works with the Community of Practice lead to implement and adopt internally industry-wide best practices, standards for data and analytics.
  • Performs a key management and thought leadership role in the areas of advanced data techniques, including data modeling, data access, data integration, data visualization, text mining, data discovery, statistical methods, database design and implementation.
  • Provides leadership in discussions at the Analytics Centre of Excellence, responsible for managing and advancing CMHC's use and internal expertise with respect to analytics.
  • Contributes to building the skills of colleagues in the Centre of Excellence as well as the Community of Practice through peer collaboration, mentoring and training.
  • Enables the development of analytics initiatives including data modeling, implementation and data management and advanced data analytics systems.
