About the role

We’re constantly evolving to build an inclusive housing system through research, design, innovation and partnerships. Your expertise in government relations and advisory services will support and enhance the capacity of Client Solutions to address critical issues related to the Sector’s Client mandate, strategic objectives and operational goals. A key focus in the role is the management, on behalf of the SVP, of external stakeholder relations in the delivery of solutions to make housing affordable for everyone in Canada.


What you will need

  • Postgraduate degree in a related field such as commerce, finance, political science or public administration.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience operating at a senior position in a similar environment, with a record of increasing responsibilities.
  • Solid knowledge of federal government and Parliamentary processes, structure and machinery of government.
  • Solid knowledge of the Canadian housing finance system.
  • Significant experience in developing, implementing and evaluating communications plans/strategies and strategic communications options.
  • Sound judgement in prioritizing and assisting with internal delegation to promote an effective work environment.
  • Advanced demonstration of leadership behaviours including taking care of the needs of the team, supporting individuals through change, and creating the conditions to enable performance excellence and innovation.
  • Demonstrated change management experience. Knowledge of change management practices, including conceptualizing, strategizing, championing and bringing change initiatives to fruition.
  • Solid demonstration of fostering system-wide thinking, and consistently acting as an inspirational role model.
  • Advanced ability to identify, assess and manage risk to ensure desired outcomes.
  • Highest level of discretion and personal integrity is required.


What you will be doing

  • Manages, on behalf of the SVP, relationships and activities between key senior housing industry stakeholders (government, non-profit and industry associations, private sector firms, external agencies).
  • Anticipates needs; identifies, understands and manages current and emerging issues; supports the advancement of CMHC's corporate objectives with respect to housing affordability and financial stability.
  • Serves as the SVP’s expert on relevant government/ministerial and parliamentary processes, advising SVP on the positioning of Client Solutions priorities, initiatives and activities including how they relate to and align with overall governance direction.
  • Provides governance, technical expertise and recommendations on high-level strategic and operational issues specific to Client Solutions activities, ensuring that they align with CMHC’s strategic direction.
  • Functions as the principal liaison between the SVP and the Client Solutions leadership team and acts as an ‘ambassador’ for the SVP.
  • Evaluates the impact of sensitive files and determines which issues must be brought to the attention of the SVP for further analysis and appropriate follow-up.
