About the role
Join the Client Solutions Team, in the Specialist, Assisted Housing position. In this role, you will analyze files and recommend solutions to minimize CMHC’s risk while supporting projects that create or preserve affordable housing, secure funding, or request policy exceptions. This role involves collaborating with consultants and clients to find options that align with CMHC’s mission to help Canadians meet their housing needs. By delivering high-quality service, you will strengthen CMHC’s reputation and maintain strong relationships with industry partners and internal stakeholders.
This is a temporary position with a duration of 13 months
What you’ll do:
- Monitor and report on activities on an ongoing basis according to housing programs policies, guidelines and procedures, relying on financial and political authorities to recommend the approval of exceptions, if applicable, when designing new solutions.
- Build and maintain constructive relationships with clients and other relevant stakeholders to gain a comprehensive understanding of their business and operating environment, facilitating document review and analysis.
- Collaborate closely with various professionals (other CMHC business lines and external experts) to validate and verify facts and data that can have an impact on financial recommendations and decisions.
- Conduct in-depth analysis of financing applications, project proposals, compliance reports and financial viability documentation to recommend an appropriate solution.
- Prepare reports and briefings, and coordinate and document the decisions made on all activities and other relevant policies and procedures for the proper functioning of social/affordable housing projects/portfolios for assigned projects.
- Analyze and maintain complex information critical to the reporting of program outputs and outcomes, identifying gaps and taking action to ensure gaps are addressed.
- Demonstrate informed judgment and due diligence when making decisions that are based on facts and complex analysis to derive recommendations and solutions in line with the expected results of the programs and government expectations, and within CMHC’s risk appetite.
What you should have:
- A bachelor’s degree in business administration or commerce, with a specialization in accounting, finance or property management , urban planning or any combination of relevant experience.
- A minimum of five years’ experience managing projects related to program management.
- Ability to interpret program guidelines to ensure maximum flexibility is used in their implementation.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to speak and write clearly and succinctly in a variety of settings and styles to communicate messages that have the desired effect in both official languages (English-French).
- Ability to persuade, influence and negotiate the acceptance of proposals or plans.
- Capacity to develop strong and sustainable partnerships.
- Good organizational skills, particularly in project management, and the ability to undertake and complete several tasks at the same time.
It would be great if you also had:
- A knowledge of procedures, policies, regulations and risk management.
- A knowledge of the social housing programs funded by the federal, provincial and municipal governments and under the social housing agreements and the National Housing Strategy would be an asset.
- Demonstrated experience real estate development would be an asset.
- Demonstrated experience in providing business and financial analyses and developing and maintaining reports and briefing notes.
