About the role
Join the Apartment Construction Loan Program team, in the Bilingual Senior Advisor, Construction Financing & Underwriting (ACLP) position. In this role, you will help advance new housing development across Canada by providing leadership to the overall delivery of the Apartment Construction Loan Program. Bring your expertise in multi-unit construction financing, credit underwriting, and client service to the table as we structure financing for some of the country’s largest and most complex residential real estate transactions and ensure the effective delivery of one of Canada’s largest federal housing programs.
What you’ll do:
- Provide leadership in the assessment and decision making of program applications and ensure the efficient and effective delivery of the program.
- Bring a client focused mindset to the table when working with Canada’s largest developers and housing providers to structure, underwrite, and approve financing for large scale rental housing projects.
- Manage issues of a politically sensitive nature, taking into consideration the competing interests of stakeholders while finding a solution that is in line with the best interest of clients, CMHC, and Canadians.
- Provide advice to the Director on the strategic direction of the program and implement solutions that help ensure the program meets its overall objectives.
- Provide thought leadership and expertise on industry best practices and emerging trends in construction financing, guiding the team in adopting innovative strategies and approaches to enhance program effectiveness and sustainability.
- Provide expert functional advice, mentorship and guidance to the regional network of client-facing teams, as well as ACLP underwriters across the country.
- Negotiate directly with housing providers on complex applications.
- Oversee the identification and management of risk by ensuring due diligence, while reviewing complex applications and advising on deal structure, legal and financial elements, as well as monitoring compliance to product design, policies and the quality of results by reviewing key performance indicators.
What you should have:
- An undergraduate degree in accounting, finance, business administration or commerce or a related field.
- A minimum of ten years of experience related to underwriting theories, principles and processes, as well as credit risk analysis, real estate financing, loan adjudication, mortgage loan insurance and financial markets.
- Sound analytical skills with demonstrated ability to capture and synthesize information to develop strategic business plans.
- The ability to make a persuasive, clear presentation of ideas that will convince others and gain acceptance of proposals or plans.
- The ability to use critical thinking, judgment and experience to find a solution when managing issues of a politically sensitive nature.
- The ability to act promptly to resolve conflict. Ability to think forward to detect potential problems and forthcoming challenges.
- Bilingualism (French and English).
