Student intern, Innovation (Position can be located anywhere in Canada)

Join the Innovation Team, where we generate and design solutions that aim to solve housing affordability and that meet the housing needs of people living in Canada. In this role, you will support innovation at CMHC by assisting with the design and delivery of projects and building visibility and awareness of programs and initiatives.


We are currently hiring for a full-time Student Intern for a 4-month Summer term (May - August).



There are a number of different tasks you may take on depending on the stage of the innovation process a project is currently in, you may:

  • Support the delivery of innovation projects and initiatives through the innovation life cycle using the appropriate techniques and/or methodologies.
  • Contribute to the collection, analysis, and synthesis of information from diverse sources.
  • Participate in cross-functional activities and collaborate with a range of colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Iteratively design a diverse set of innovative solutions ranging from policy, technology, urban planning, etc.
  • Co-facilitate or participate in ideation workshops and innovation pods.
  • Support high-level problem analysis and framing.


Minimum Qualifications

• New Graduate or pursuing an undergraduate degree in business planning, social sciences, engineering or related field.
• Minimum of 1 year experience or the experience can be acquired through the studies, work experience or volunteer activities.
• Good analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.         
• Sound interpersonal, communication and facilitation skills.          
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Understanding of the implications of public policy and political environment on housing programs would be considered as an asset.
• Project Management, Change Management or Innovation certificate(s) would be considered an asset.
• Experience with various innovated related skills and methods such as; problem analysis, design thinking, prototyping and experimenting, design sprints, innovation facilitation, iterative user centered design, and behavior economics would be considered an asset.
