Salary: Our salaries generally range from $ 97692.52 to $ 122115.65 and are based on qualifications and experience.

Join the Business and Operational Risk division Analytics team in the Data Scientist position. Your ability to apply advanced analytical skills and knowledge of Canada’s financial and mortgage sectors to analytics activities initiatives at CMHC, including data visualization, data analysis, machine learning or predictive models, risk insights and reporting will support decision-making, enhancing risk management and building automated systems.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Conduct data visualization and report to communicate insights and findings to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Conduct exploratory data analysis to identify patterns, trends, and insights in large and complex datasets. 
  • Develop or use machine learning or statistical models to solve complex business problems.  
  • Lead data analytics projects from ideation to implementation, including project planning, execution, and delivery.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify business problems and opportunities that can be solved with data analytics. 
  • Strong understanding of the financial sectors and real estate market to draw insights that are relevant and actionable. 
  • Evaluate and select appropriate analytics tools, techniques, and frameworks to improve efficiency and automation. 
  • Share business knowledge and provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members. 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Master's degree or higher in a quantitative discipline such as finance, mathematics, economics, statistics or computer science.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in modelling or quantitative analytics at a bank, insurance company, asset manager or other type of financial institution.
  • Hands-on experience on data science (e.g., machine learning) and advance analytics.  
  • Proficient in programming languages such as Python, R, and SQL and experience using tool/package for visualization such as power BI, R shiny, Python dash. 
  • Experience working with big data ecosystems such as Spark, HDFS, and familiar with cloud service.  Strong understanding of mathematical finance and risk management.
  • Good understanding of Canada's financial sector and real estate markets.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. 
  • Good project management skills, good writing and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct rigorous analysis using critical thinking and judgment to resolve complex issues.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Professional designation (Chartered Financial Analyst, Professional Risk Manager, Financial Risk Manager, Certificate in Quantitative Finance) considered an asset.
