About the role
We’re constantly evolving to build an inclusive housing system through research, design, innovation and partnerships. You will help establish partners with traditional and non-traditional players within the housing market to enable the inflow of private sector capital into the Affordable Housing space that will help us make housing affordable for everyone in Canada.
 

What you will need

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field such as business, finance or commerce, political science, policy.
  • Minimum of ten years of prior relevant experience.
  • Strong knowledge of internal procedures, policies and regulations around corporate management. Strong understanding of most organizational products and services.
  • Strong knowledge of the organizational structure and the ability to efficiently gain applicable information from various internal and external stakeholders towards tangible outcomes.
  • Working knowledge of residential/multi-unit mortgage loan insurance, lending, real estate (including non-housing related commercial), not-for-profits in real estate and commercial financial markets.
  • Demonstrated experience in building partnerships, and knowledge of available partners in the market and partnership opportunities. Ability to lead without a title and associated authority while developing strong relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skill as well as analytical, creative and evaluative thinking. The ability to step outside the norms to assess issues from a different perspective, develop creative solutions to various problems, and accurately assess associated risks and rewards.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently. Ability to manage the role's self-performance according to its timelines and objectives, and to drive the outcomes the role hopes to achieve.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills including presentation, persuasion, negotiation and influencing skills. Ability to develop and utilize a network within CMHC and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Successful completion of a professional association designation such as being Certified in Real Estate Finance (CRF), Certified Property Management (CPM), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or any other applicable designation.
  • Working knowledge of mortgage financing and real estate laws, default remedy and/or public administration.

 

What you will be doing

 

Business Analysis

  • Leads new, innovative, and complex deals, which may include existing product/service offerings to develop partnerships with the greatest impact on affordability with private corporations and philanthropic foundations, and secure the inflow of private sector investments into the affordable housing.
  • Applies sound judgment and decision-making practices that are factual and based on complex analysis to derive creative recommendations and solutions on CMHC's most complex transactions while stretching the boundaries of internal policies, risk appetite and relative controls.
  • Creatively identifies new partnerships, funding models, and other approaches to facilitate the increase of private sector proponents into the Affordable Housing space. Builds partnerships and manages them through their life-cycle.
  • Leverages existing organizational products, clients, programs and services to bring the best solution to CMHC partners and entice private sector participants to make investments that are necessary to solve the affordable housing crisis. Crafts new and flexible deals, products, programs and services for CMHC partners in cooperation with external partners.
  • Identifies the private sector proponent needs, translates them into tangible outcomes and navigates the organizational resources to support the attainment of those outcomes. Enhance solution-building by making use of external tools. Builds the mechanisms and tools that will enable a solution to affordability challenges.
  • Sets precedents with recommendations on increasing the private sector involvement and funding, and develops expert opinion to be relied upon by others across the corporation, and which will be added to a growing base of knowledge.

 

Client Relationship Management

  • Leads and supports the vertical and horizontal collaboration across CMHC to build and sustain internal/external champions (not-for-profits, financial institutions, etc.) that promote knowledge transfers and act as ambassadors to CMHC cause in order to achieve organizational 2030 goal.
  • Consults extensively with internal and external stakeholders to gain intelligence on private sector proponents, their needs and their criteria relative to accepting a financial instrument promoted by the organization. Explores opportunities for increasing private sector investment. Seeks and secure professional input, clarification and concurrence in order to overcome barriers and provide recommendations.
  • Enables external partners to take ownership and implement solutions without CMHC’s direct participation. Takes immediate action to address client needs and inquiries.
  • Negotiates and navigates through challenging politically sensitive issues, while adhering to all relevant policies and procedures.
  • Maintains complex and sophisticated client relationships including private and publicly traded companies, real estate investments trusts (REITs), pension funds, not-for-profit etc., in order to manage and address their needs, understand their objectives and explore opportunities. Forges connections and broker partnerships among key players in the housing ecosystem.

 

Advice and Guidance

  • Provides credible and authoritative advice at all levels of management (including CEO), which may alter policies, products and processes.
  • Offers advice, support and alternative creative or innovative solutions to clients and stakeholders including the communication of key decisions, the interpretation of policies and the response to inquiries relations to mortgage loan insurance.
  • Provides guidance and shares knowledge with peers, shares best practices and approves risk recommendations within financial authority limits, as applicable. Exercises prudence and diligence to ensure team members comply with all relevant internal policies and procedures applicable to the function, often pushing risk appetite beyond existing boundaries.
  • Enables external partners to take ownership and implement solutions without CMHC’s direct participation.
